WILLITS >> Middletown High School scored its first head-to-head wrestling win over Willits in at least the last four years, beating the Wolverines 48-27 in a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet on Wednesday evening in Willits.
“It’s the first time we’ve beaten them since I’ve been the coach here,” said four-year Middletown veteran Brian Hunt.
While that was a great start to the Mustangs’ night, they couldn’t complete a sweep as Kelseyville edged Middletown 40-39 later in the evening.
“I was hoping for 2-0 but we got 1-1,” Hunt said of the tri-meet split. Now we’ll just see what happens the rest of the season. A couple of those matches could have gone the other way, but it is what it is.”
Against Willits, Middletown winners were Caden McDowell by pin at 106 points, James Crayne by pin at 126 pounds, Jonathan Wilson by pin at 138 pounds, Noah Williams by decision at 145 pounds, Scott Kelly by decision at 152 pounds, Peter Sullivan by pin at 160 pounds, Saul Padilla by pin at 195 pounds, and Cameron Ketchum by pin at 220 pounds.
