LAKEPORT >> An AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team of 10 young adults will be serving with Lake County at the Work Right Warehouse Valley Fire Distribution Center until March 15.
The NCCC team will manage the flood of donations the county has received. Tasks will include sorting and packing donations as well as organizing and keeping the distribution area fully stocked for the survivors of the fire.
The county requested the team to serve at the distribution center for nine weeks. The distribution center has household goods, kitchen items, clothes, shoes, diapers, food, toiletries, sheets, toys, some furniture, and more. Everything is free to survivors with proof of a lost residence address.
“Our AmeriCorps crew just came in and we will have them help us sort and get furniture for victims,” said site supervisor Lori Thornton. “They will help us get the fire victims what they need in our distribution center up front and also help us sort to prepare for the wind down when we have to leave the warehouse in March.”
The team of 18- to 24-year-olds arrived in Lake County on Jan. 12. They will serve with AmeriCorps NCCC for 10 months and graduate the program on July 21.
The distribution center is located at 4615 Work Right Circle in Lakeport with hours of operation being Monday-Friday from noon to 4 p.m. The distribution center is no longer accepting donations besides furniture.
