Clearlake >> One man was shot and another was taken into custody in Clearlake on Wednesday night.
At about 10:28 p.m., Officers with the Clearlake Police Department (CPD) were dispatched to the area of 15th Street and Country Club Drive for a report of three gunshots heard in the area. The caller reported unknown subjects yelling for medical assistance.
Officers arrived on scene and found the residence at the 3200 block of 15th Street. However, officers were unable to locate a victim at that time, CPD Sgt. Martin Snyder said in a press statement.
While on scene it was reported that a victim of an apparent gunshot wound had been dropped off at St. Helena Hospital, Clear Lake. The victim, was who was later identified as Anthony Monize, 24, of Clearlake, suffered an apparent gunshot wound to his torso.
Monize was transported out of county via an air ambulance for medical treatment.
Snyder said that based upon witnesses statements authorities determined the suspect to be William Mitchell, 57, of Clearlake.
While at the residence on 15th Street an argument reportedly took place between Monize and Mitchell. After the altercation, Mitchell allegedly went to his home on Ninth Street and recovered a firearm.
He returned several minutes later and allegedly shot numerous rounds, with at least one reportedly striking the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers, Snyder said.
Mitchell was taken into custody Thursday morning at his residence without incident. He was later transported and booked into the Lake County jail. He faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
As of Thursday afternoon, Monize is in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injuries, Snyder said.
