REDDING >> The Shasta Historical Society, in collaboration with ViVA Downtown and Far Nor Cal GIS, has embarked upon a project entitled A Walk through History. This self-guided digital walking tour through Downtown Redding will highlight historically significant sites. The tour uses technology to bring history to the user’s fingertips.

Eight sites have been chosen for the kick-off of this tour. These first sites are the Shasta Historical Society building, Old City Hall, Behrens-Eaton House, Independent Order of Odd Fellows—Reading Lodge, the Lorenz Hotel, the Cascade Theatre, the Bank of Shasta County, and the Diestelhorst Bridge.

Users will be able to access the self-guided walking tour two different ways: in person using a Quick Response (QR) code and at home by visiting www.shastahistorical.org/a-walk-through-history/. A sign featuring a QR code will be placed at each location.

Anyone can participate. All users need to do is scan the QR code with a QR reader application on a smart phone or tablet on an A Walk through History sign at one of the buildings or visit the website.
