FORT BRAGG >> Eight North Central League I victories in a row for the undefeated Kelseyville High School varsity girls’ basketball team, a 59-34 winner over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Friday night on the Mendocino County coast.

Kelseyville (8-0 league, 17-3 overall) remained one game ahead of Middletown (7-1) in the league standings behind a 21-point night from Alma Perez and 17 points from Payton Conrad.

“I thought our team defense in the first quarter was really good,” Kelseyville coach Jim Hale said. “We made them uncomfortable.”

The Knights led 21-7 after one quarter and never looked back. After a sluggish second period, the Knights put the game away with a 21-point third quarter.

Conrad and Perez combined for five of Kelseyville’s seven 3-pointers.

“They’ve been very consistent the last couple of games,” Hale said of the junior Perez and the freshman Conrad.

Heidy Cano added six points and seven rebounds in the win, Carli Mendonca pulled down six rebounds and Riley Goff had five points.

“They’re tough inside and they play man-to-man defense,” Hale said of the Timberwolves, who dropped to 2-6 in the league standings.

Kelseyville plays three league games next week. The Knights are home Tuesday against Cloverdale, away Thursday at Willits, and home a week from today against Lower Lake.

The Knights won the junior varsity game 42-19 behind 14 points from Brisa Villa, eight from Bib Hamner and seven from Kendyll Nunn. Kelseyville is 6-2 in the league standings.
