SACRAMENTO >> The Sacramento Area Wrestling Association Folkstyle Championships took place Sunday at Natomas High School in Sacramento and the Lower Lake Punishers club made its mark, sending 12 wrestlers and bringing home 11 medals, including six firsts.
More than 200 wrestlers competed in the various weight divisions.
Winning their weight divisions were Austin Fredrickson, who went 3-0 and pinned Josiah Laird of NorCal Takedown in the second round of their championship match; Isaiah Rubio, who also went 3-0; Cisco Howland, who beat all three of his opponents; Adam Viramontes, who finished in a three-way tie but won on criteria for having the most pins; Carter Rudolph, who went 3-0; and Hayden Fowler, who dominated the opposition in all three of his matches.
Four Punishers reached their weight division finals and came home with second-place medals. They were Jonathan Fredrickson, Jayden Roath, Myles Conatser and Mason Roath, whose only lost was to teammate Rubio.
Nick Celli added a third-place medal.
While the majority of Punishers were competing in Sacramento, Arturo Gudino and Mario Cuellar traveled to Selma to participate in the Selma Elementary State Tournament.
Gudino posted a 3-1 record and placed second in the kindergarten through second grade division for 40-pounders. Cuellar just missed a medal in the schoolboy 90-pound division.
The Punishers return to action this weekend in Windsor for a Tournament of Champions qualifier at Windsor High School.
