SACRAMENTO >> Clearlake now has a second youth wrestling club. CORE Wrestling, created by Lower Lake High School wrestling coach Ed Fuchs, made its debut last weekend during the Sacramento Area Wrestling Association Folkstyle Championships at Natomas High School in Sacramento.
CORE Wrestling and Punisher Wrestling serve approximately 60 youngsters in the Southshore area of Lake County.
According to Fuchs, CORE Wrestling was created because of the increased interest in the sport. There are currently 27 members ranging in age from 4-13, according to Fuchs. Only two of those took part in the club’s tournament debut in Sacramento.
Liberty Fuchs made her wrestling debut in the 53-pound intermediate division and won three of four matches, two by pin and the other by major decision, to finish second.
Tyler Galamay finished fourth in the 57-pound intermediate division and just missed a medal, which were awarded down to three places in all weight divisions. Galamay competed for Punisher Wrestling a year ago before joining CORE Wrestling.
CORE Wrestling returns to action Feb. 14 in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in Vacaville.
