LOWER LAKE >> Maybe it was something in the air or the water. Maybe they’re just darn good.
Setting the table for a great night of Lower Lake High School boys’ basketball against Fort Bragg on Thursday were the junior varsity Trojans with a 66-53 North Central League I victory over the Timberwolves in Lower Lake.
Led by 17 points from Izzac Carver, the Trojans improved to 8-2 in the league standings. Four Lower Lake players finished the game in double figures and another came close. Jermaine Watson added 15 points, both Angel Jaurgui and Taylor Scott had 12, and Bobby Cruz chipped in with eight.
In the varsity game that followed, five Trojans reached double digits in the scoring column in a 94-83 Lower Lake victory.
Lower Lake hosts another 8-2 team in Kelseyville today at noon.

Clear Lake 48, St. Helena 29
At Lakeport, Brady McGuire’s 13 points powered the Clear Lake Cardinals past the St. Helena Saints.
Preston Jones contributed another 11 points to the win as Clear Lake improved to 6-4 in league play. Lucas Stahr had nine.
Clear Lake hits the road tonight to play Fort Bragg at 6 p.m.
K’ville 40, Willits 23
At Kelseyville, Johnny Mendonca led the way with 12 points and Adrian Villalobos added 10 as the Kelseyville Knights beat the Willits Wolverines in NCL I action.
Both teams struggled on offense in the first half as Kelseyville led 18-10 at halftime.
“It was a slow start for us, very slow. It was a grind for awhile,” Kelseyville coach Rich Facey said. The Knights were without one of their top players, Randy Pfann, who has been promoted to the varsity team for the remainder of the season.
Kelseyville travels to Lower Lake today at noon in a battle of 8-2 teams.
Girls’ basketball
K’ville 41, Willits 36
At Willits, Brisa Villa’s 15 points helped the Kelseyville Knights notch a road win against the Willits Wolverines.
Bailey Couey added nine points as the Knights improved to 8-2 in the NCL I standings.
Kelseyville hosts undefeated Lower Lake (10-0) today at noon.
Clear Lake 52, St. Helena 27
At St. Helena, the Clear Lake Cardinals dominated early and cruised past the St. Helena Saints.
Grace Davidson’s 14 points led the team. Clear Lake (8-2) had a 19-2 advantage after one quarter and a 30-11 lead by halftime.
Kortnie Reynolds added 11 points in the win.
Clear Lake is home tonight to play Fort Bragg at 6 p.m.
Lower Lake 49, Fort Bragg 23
At Fort Bragg, Vanessa Hughes and Anahi Robles scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, as the Lower Lake Trojans improved to 10-0 in the NCL I standings with a win over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves.
Lower Lake travels to Kelseyville (8-2) today at noon.
