FREMONT >> Upper Lake High School 120-pounder Junior Fernandez brought home the fourth-place medal on Saturday from the 41st annual Mission San Jose Invitational wrestling tournament at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont.

After breezing to two easy wins on Friday, the Upper Lake freshman opened Saturday with a 15-0 technical fall over Sam Camacho of Birmingham High School of the Southern Section in the quarterfinals. Next up was semifinal opponent Patrick Ramirez of Concord’s De La Salle High School and Fernandez dropped a 12-5 decision to fall into the consolation bracket.

Going up against Aidan Milligan of Castro Valley in the consolation semifinals, Fernandez won 7-6 to reach the third-place match. Unfortunately, Fernandez never had the opportunity to meet Tyler Kline of Amador as he had to injury default.

Fernandez was the only Upper Lake wrestler to win more than one match at Mission San Jose. He is now 28-6 on the season.

Upper Lake wrestlers return to action Wednesday during a tri-meet in Fort Bragg at 5:30 p.m.
