POINT ARENA >> Spending far more time on the road than they did in the gym on Wednesday night, the Kelseyville High School wrestling team closed out its dual season with victories of 18-12 over Point Arena and 30-15 over Clear Lake at Point Arena High School.
“They do a great job of feeding us when we go all the way over there and the tamales were worth it,” Kelseyville coach Rob Brown said of the long ride to the Mendocino County coast.
There were only a handful of contested matches between Kelseyville-Point Arena and Kelseyville-Clear Lake.
In Kelseyville’s victory over Point Arena, Tony Velasquez won by first-round pin at 134 pounds and Javonte Gregoire won by first-round pin at 172 pounds.
Against Clear Lake, the Knights went 2-2 in contested matches. Wins came at 140 pounds where Velasquez beat Brandon Dickey by second-round pin and at 222 pounds where Brendan Serrano pinned Kelly Vincent in the first round.
Clear Lake’s wins came at 172 pounds where Isaac Lewis defeated Gregoire 7-2 and 115 pounds where Alicia Ledesma pinned Bri Thomas in the first round.
Clear Lake’s and Kelseyville’s girls are competing in the North Coast Section Championships on Friday and Saturday at Albany. The top three finishers in each weight class advance to the CIF State Championships later this month.
