LOWER LAKE >> Vanessa Hughes scored 16 points and Anahi Robles added 11 as the Lower Lake High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team locked up no worse than a co-championship in the North Central League I standings with a 46-33 victory over the Willits Wolverines on Tuesday in Lower Lake.

Lower Lake, now 12-0 in league play and 22-2 on the season, can clinch the undisputed league crown by winning either of its two remaining games — tonight at home against Cloverdale or Tuesday in Lakeport against Clear Lake.

In other JV girls’ action Tuesday:

Clear Lake 50, K’ville 37

At Lakeport, Grace Davidson and Kortnie Reynolds scored 14 points apiece and Brooklyn Jenkins had 11 as the Clear Lake Cardinals knocked off the Kelseyville Knights.

Clear Lake improved to 10-2 in league play while Kelseyville slipped to 8-4. Brisa Villa led the Knights with 17 points and Grace Duty had eight.

Clear Lake travels to Willits tonight while Kelseyville visits Middletown on Friday.

Upper Lake 43, Calistoga 28

At Upper Lake, Julia Mooney’s 16 points helped lift the Upper Lake Cougars to a win over the Calistoga Wildcats in NCL II action.

Joining Mooney in double figures were teammates Cheyanne Obedoza with 14 points and Delaney Love with 10.

Upper Lake remains at home to play Sonoma Academy on Friday.

Boys’ basketball

Clear Lake 72, K’ville 63

At Lakeport, combining for 135 points were the Clear Lake Cardinals and Kelseyville Knights in this fast-paced NCL I contest. The victory moved Clear Lake (8-4) to within a game of Kelseyville (9-3) in the league standings. Each team has two games remaining.

“They started our tumble (in league) this year and we just wanted to pay them back,” Clear Lake coach Phil Psalmonds said of a 59-41 loss to the Knights in the first league meeting between the two teams on Jan. 19 in Kelseyville.

The Cardinals overcame a big 22-point night from Kelseyville’s Adrian Villalobos. Lucas Stahr led a balanced Clear Lake attack with 19 points, Tanner Cole added 15, Jake Elsa and Brady McGuire each had 11, and Rodrigo Lupercio had 10.

Scott Sanchez had 14 points for the Knights.

On Saturday, Clear Lake beat Fort Bragg 68-55 in Fort Bragg behind 24 points from McGuire and 14 from Stahr.

Clear Lake hosts Willits tonight. Kelseyville is home Friday to play Middletown.

Lower Lake 49, Willits 41

At Willits, Izzac Carver’s 16 points propelled the Lower Lake Trojans past the Willits Wolverines in NCL I action.

Lower Lake improved to 9-3 in the league standings.

Taylor Scott and Guy Boyd had 10 points apiece for the Trojans, who hit the road again tonight to play Cloverdale.

Upper Lake 70, Calistoga 32

At Upper Lake, Colton Goetjen’s double-double night of 12 points and 10 rebounds helped power Upper Lake in its NCL II victory over the Calistoga Wildcats.

J.T. Claunch led the Cougars (7-2) with 17 points and Jacob Kalawaia added 13.

Upper Lake had the game well in hand at halftime with a 45-12 lead.

The Cougars host Sonoma Academy on Friday.
