It’s pretty much down to one game in the race for the North Central League I varsity girls’ basketball championship as the Middletown Mustangs, defending league champions, host the NCL I-leading Kelseyville Knights on Friday night in Middletown. Kelseyville brings a 12-0 record to Middletown and needs a victory to clinch the outright title and dethrone Middletown (11-1). If the host Mustangs win, the two teams will be tied, each with one league game remaining. Kelseyville won the first league meeting on Jan. 22, beating Middletown 55-42 in Kelseyville. Among the key players for the two teams are Kelseyville freshman guard Payton Conrad (top) and Middletown junior forward/center Abby Aden. Junior varsity action tips off at 6 p.m. with the varsity game to follow. Regardless of the outcome, the two teams could meet again next week in the NCL I postseason tournament at Mendocino College in Ukiah.
