A real problem

There’s been tons of information in the “letters” column about politics. Various opinions, all of them for the most part very interesting. I have just one question for all those illustrious candidates and your readers. Why haven’t any of them addressed the Social Security problem? As a senior citizen, we haven’t been given our COLA for 2 years now, but the politicians in Washington, D.C. Have voted themselves substantial increases in their wages behind closed doors.

As a citizen, and all of you other citizens of any age; aren’t you curious about this? It pertains to anyone of wage earning age. It’s your future. It’s common knowledge that our illustrious politicians have robbed the Social Security account for years with no intention of paying any of it back.

Personally, any of these contenders who don’t address this problem with a solution does not have my vote. Many of them want to abolish S.S. Is this their reasoning for not mentioning it in their campaigns? I am very curious about this and am emailing them asking them about it. So far I have no replies.

Appreciation

Branch #133 of the Sons In Retirement would like to express their appreciation to the Clearlake WalMart store for their generous donation of a flag/pole kit. With specific thanks to the Assistant Managers Melissa and Johnny. The pole will fly a flag obtained via Congressman John Garamendi’s office which was flown over the Nations Capitol on January 27, 2016 in honor of the military service provided by the Branch’s veterans.

Thanks to all

The Middletown Rotary Club thanks the community, sponsors and Rotary clubs, all of which helped make its 24th annual fundraiser, Turf Not Surf: A Prime Rib Feast, such a rousing success.

Sponsors included Reynolds Systems, Hardester’s Markets, Granite Construction, Servpro, Benjamin’s Trucking, Fox Marble, St. Helena Hospital-Clearlake, MPA Environmental Services and Mendo-Lake Credit Union.

Participating Rotary clubs were Berkeley, Calistoga, Clearlake, Fortuna, Hanford, Kelseyville, Lakeport, Paradise, Sebastopol, Sebastopol Sunrise and San Pablo. Rotary District Governor Erin Dunn of Fortuna was in attendance and had helped spread the word.

For the first time, the event took place at Twin Pine Event Center, Middletown. A portion of the proceeds is designated for the Club’s special Fire Recovery Fund. All proceeds always go to local projects and scholarships plus a few international projects, such as the eradication of polio in the world.

The Interact Club of Middletown High School were the servers and auction helpers and did their usual extraordinary job of giving personal attention to participants.
