LAKEPORT >> Law enforcement officials are investigating an alleged shoplifting incident that took place over the weekend.
On Saturday shortly before 7 p.m. the suspect entered CVS Pharmacy in Lakeport and began selecting merchandise from store shelves. CVS managers noticed the person, described as a white male adult with blonde shoulder length “greasy hair,” enter the bathroom. When the suspect emerged, he no longer was holding the merchandise and appeared to have it under his clothing, according to a statement issued by Lakeport Police Sgt. Kevin Odom.
When confronted by the manager, the suspect denied having any concealed items and walked to the store exit. The manager followed, reportedly telling the suspect to stop.
Once outside, the suspect produced a small can of what was believed to be pepper spray and attempted to spray the manger but missed. Fearing for his safety the manger discontinued pursuit of the suspect while other employees called 911.
