LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Library’s lecture series, “Know Lake County,” will resume on Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Lakeport Library, with a program featuring Andy Weiss, KPFZ radio’s station manager, speaking about Lake County’s own community radio station.
Weiss, Dallas Cook and George Breunig formed KPFZ in 1995 to promote local radio and local views. KPFZ has overcome numerous technical, legal and financial obstacles in its journey to the present. KPFZ’s supporters continue to bring an array of local radio programming to Lake County. During the Valley Fire, KPFZ broadcast fire news around the clock for weeks.
In 2015 Know Lake County’s inaugural series drew 585 guests and proved so popular that the Lake County Library has committed to presenting a second year of lectures about Lake County. Know Lake County’s family-friendly programs are designed to inform and entertain Lake County residents about Lake County. All programs take place on the third Saturday of each month from February through December.
Speakers from an array of disciplines and organizations deliver programs for Know Lake County. Programs scheduled for 2016 include the Clear Lake Environmental Research Center, the Lake County Quilt Trail, a panel of speakers on Valley Fire memories, the Lake County Fair, Boggs Mountain State Demonstration Forest and the history of education in Lake County.
Library director Christopher Veach said, “It’s been great to see so many people turn out to learn about Lake County and for so many to volunteer to share what they know about Lake County. It’s what the library is all about: connecting people with knowledge and each other.”
