Tax Preparedness Service offered Feb. 3 – April 15

Tax preparation will be offered beginning Feb. 3 at the Ukiah Senior Center on a first-come-first-served basis on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Bartlett Hall, ending April 15. Be sure to bring photo identification with you as well as yearly forms and documents showing income. Even if you do not have enough income to require you to file, the Internal Revenue Service recommends that you file in order to prevent identity theft and possible fraud. The Tax volunteers will be glad to help you.

Free Healthier Living Classes, Feb. 4 – March 10

A new free workshop series will be offered once a week beginning Thursday, Feb. 4 through March 10 at The Ukiah Senior Center’s Administration building in the RCHDC Conference Room from 9 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop, presented by Susan Era and Charlie Seltzer, will help you cope and manage your disease and live life again. Ice Cream Social: The Ice Cream Social will be held in Bartlett Hall, 495 Leslie St., from 2 to 3 p.m. Enjoy a dish of ice cream with toppings and pie for $2. Members over 90 or those coming to the Social in their birthday month will enjoy free admission. Entertainment will feature Les Boek, a fabulous local singer-songwriter and musician. The Celebrity Scooper is K.C. Meadows from The Ukiah Daily Journal and the Angel Donor for the much sought-after “red ticket” $50 door prize The Ukiah Daily Journal. Information 462-4343.

Advance Directive workshop: This workshop is designed to lead participants through a step-by step process of personal evaluation to complete an Advance Directive, a planning document for health and life decisions. It documents your wishes in the areas of choosing a healthcare agent, the kind of medical treatment you want or don’t want, how you want people to treat you and what you want your loved ones to know about your choices. The workshop will be presented in two segments, two hours each, with the second segment on March 12. It will be co-led by Miriam Raphael, Carol Hale, Margy Henderson and Robin Cottrell, who have had extensive experience in end of life, palliative and hospice care. Workshops will be held at Ukiah Senior Center Admin. Bldg, 499 Leslie St., in the Lunch Bunch Room from 10 a.m. To noon. Space is limited. Support group: From 2 to 4 p.m., join with other community members over tea and cake to talk about a subject that many find awkward or uncomfortable: death and dying. The Death Café is open to all and isn’t based on any particular belief system or philosophy. For information about Death Cafes, visit www.deathcafe.com. The Death Café meets monthly at the Ukiah Senior Center’s Lunch Bunch Room located at the back Administration Building behind Bartlett Hall. Community dance: The community is invited to a dance with Will Siegel & Friends from 7 to 10 p.m. at Bartlett Hall, 495 Leslie St., in Ukiah. Price of admission is $10 at the door. For information call 462-4343.

Bingo Bash: Bingo lovers are invited to Ukiah Senior Center’s Bartlett Hall for a Bingo Bash day of games at 495 Leslie St. Barbeque tri-tip, red roasted potatoes, green salad, and garlic bread for $5, will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Games begin at 1 p.m. and ticket sales start at 10 a.m. Minimum buy-in is $15, includes every game. Payout size is dependent on attendance. Minimum payout is $35, every game. Players may get a chance to win one of three $250 payouts. A snack bar with hamburgers, hot dogs, barbequed chili beans and red roasted potatoes will be open all day. This event is open to the community but participants must be 18 years or older to attend. Bunko benefit: An evening of Bunko will be held at Ukiah Senior Center’s Bartlett Hall, 495 Leslie St. from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $12, which includes a Bunko game, prize and fabulous food and beverages. Everyone wins a prize. Bring a new friend and both of you will receive an extra entry for the door prize drawing, as well as $2 off admission. All proceeds benefit Ukiah Senior Center. March 16

Caregiver support: This series will be presented on the third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in the RCHDC conference room at the Ukiah Senior Center Administration Building, 499 Leslie St. Redwood Caregiver Resource Center will present training on Alzheimer’s for family members and professionals. Facilitator Alexis Glidewell, MSW, will present a video entitled “A thousand Tomorrows: Intimacy, Sexuality and Alzheimer’s”. This film follows couples dealing with the issue of changes in intimacy as dementia causes changes in roles. Seating is limited.
