FORESTVILLE >> Middletown’s 7-6 lead turned into a 6-4 loss to the El Molino Lions on Friday afternoon in Forestville where the non-league varsity baseball game was called because of darkness in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Middletown (1-2) scored three times in the top of the sixth to go ahead 7-6, but El Molino was still batting in the bottom of the inning when the umpires called the game. By rule, the score reverts to whatever it was after the last complete inning, which was 6-4 El Molino through five.
“Hard way to lose a game,” Middletown coach Brad Holt said. “They (Lions) had one on with one out.”
The Mustangs scored four times in the top of the fifth to cut into El Molino’s 6-0 lead.
Brett Pike went 2-for-3 for the Mustangs and Tyler Showen and losing pitcher Albert Ruske had doubles.
Middletown plays at St. Vincent on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
