HEALDSBURG >> The Upper Lake High School softball team, sans seniors, went under the lights on Tuesday evening at Healdsburg High School in its season opener against the host Greyhounds, who prevailed 10-0 in five innings.

“I have a real young team,” Upper Lake coach Kelly Coburn said. “Nine freshmen, three juniors and two sophomores, but I’m liking what I’m seeing.”

Upper Lake (0-1) managed just three hits against Healdsburg pitching, singles by Stacy Johnson, Adrianna Saldana and Megan Franco.

Julia Mooney was the losing pitcher.

Healdsburg scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to end the game as the 10-run mercy rule came into effect at that point.

Weather permitting, the Cougars hit the road Friday to play Geyserville at 3:30 p.m.
