RENO >> Three Lake County youth wrestlers returned home from the Rocky Mountain Nationals Rumble in Reno tournament last weekend with championship belts while others won medals.
Competing against many of the top youth wrestlers in the nation, Isaiah Rubio and Alexis Peregrina of the Lower Lake Punishers and Daniel Anderson-Reyes of the Kelseyville Krush won their respective weight classes.
Rubio, competing in the 66-pound, 12-and-under division, went 3-0, including a 5-4 victory over Aidan Edwards of SoCal Judo in the finals. He also scored 11-0 and 10-2 major decisions en route to the championship match.
Peregrina, the No. 2 seed in the 87-pound, 8-and-under division that was full of boys, beat No. 3 seed Keanu Kaio of the Capital Christian Cougars 2-0 to reach the finals where she scored a 4-2 sudden-death victory over Bradlee Green of Turlock. Along with the championship belt she won in that division, Peregrina also claimed the second-place medal in the 8-and-under heavyweight division.
Anderson-Reyes, a rookie wrestler, competed in two separate divisions like Peregrina and came away with the championship belt in one and a third-place medal in the other.
Among the other medal winners were Tucker Murray of the Kelseyville Krush, who entered two divisions and finished third and sixth, respectively.
For the Punishers, Carter Rudolph was third in the 87-pound, 8-and-under division and fifth in the 78-pound, 8-and-under division; Bryan Gudino was third in the 62-pound, 12-and-under division; Travis Boyles was third in the 46-pound, 8-and-under division; Dominick Clark finished fifth in the 53-pound, 10-and-under division; and Adam Viramontes placed fifth in the 89-pound, 10-and-under division.
Mason and Jayden Roath, Cisco Howland, Arturo Gudino, Taylor Boyles and Hayden Fowler also competed for the Punishers but fell short of winning a medal.
A handful of Punishers return to the road March 12 for the Rocky Mountain Nationals Terminator World Championships in Arizona.
