Clearlake >> Auditions for the upcoming production of the children´s play ¨We Are Monsters¨ will take place next week.

The play takes place an old abandoned theater, Targoyle and Fargoyle enthusiastically welcome monsters far and wide to the annual Monster Cabaret. Here the monsters are safe to freely express themselves without any humans around. Only this year, four human kids have snuck into the cabaret. Westerly, Jade and Sunny all have hopes of revealing monster secrets to the world. KC, the oldest of the group, breaks from his tough exterior to reveal that he longs to find his childhood monster friend, Oozy Lumpa.

The story and lyrics are written by Denver Casado and Betina Hershey. Casado is an award winning musical theater writer, composer and arts educator. His musicals have been performed in more than 40 countries and in every state of the U.S. Hershey is a native New Yorker born to a Broadway musician. She has been writing and composing music from a very young age.

The Lake County Theatre Company will hold auditions on Tuesday, 4-6 p.m. at Konocti Education Center located at 15850-A Dam Road Extension, Room 18 in Clearlake; March 10, 6-8 p.m. 725 N. Brush St. in Lakeport; and March 12 10am-noon 725 N. Brush St. in Lakeport.

The play opens the last two weeks of June. Rehearsals will be held at the Konocti Education Center. This is an opportunity for children to see how a play is developed and be part of a community event. The script is written for kids, which means the script is kid friendly. Children from ages 6-14 years are invited to come and audition, no acting or singing experience is necessary. However, kids can read the book before coming to audition this might be helpful during the audition.

The play will be directed by James Patton, a long-time member of the Lake County Theatre Company who has directed several children´s plays. Call Shona Lorenzo at (505) 261-4374 for any questions.
