Nice >> Officers found a car reportedly involved in a Friday hit and run crash, but the driver remains at large.
Early Friday morning Nicholas Ferretti was riding a 1977 orange Tomos Sport moped eastbound on Highway 20, west of Lakeshore Boulevard. The Lucerne resident, 44, was traveling at about 35 mph when he was struck from behind by a 1990 Mercury Topaz, according to a collision report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Due to the force of the impact, Ferretti was thrown from the moped and sustained minor injuries.
The Topaz driver, who was traveling at an unknown speed when the crash occurred, allegedly stopped momentarily then fled the scene heading westbound on Highway 20.
CHP officers later found the car abandoned on Carson Street. Though they searched the area, they were unable to locate the suspected driver.
Ferretti, who was wearing a helmet, although not one approved by the Department of Transportation, was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport for complaints of back pain.
