SACRAMENTO >> Brothers Austin Fredrickson and Jonathan Fredrickson and teammate Nick Celli of the Punishers Wrestling Club of Lower Lake won all of their matches on Saturday to secure first-place finishes during the Maverick Roundup at Foothill High School in Sacramento.
Five Punishers participated in the competition, which featured 250 wrestlers, and four came away with medals.
Austin Fredrickson went 3-0 in the 66-pound division while Jonathan Fredrickson posted a 5-0 record in the 70-pound division. Jonathan’s day on the mats included three wins by pin, a technical fall and a 11-0 major division. Celli went 4-0 in the 67-pound JV/elementary division.
Bringing home a second-place medal was Adam Viramontes, a fifth-grader who was going up against seventh-graders in the 89-pound JV division. He won four of his five matches to finish in a three-way tie for first place but fell one criteria point shy of a first-place medal and had to settle for second.
Hayden Fowler also competed against older opponents in the same division as teammate Viramontes and fell just short of a medal.
The tournament was a last-chance Tournament of Champions qualifier.
Next up for a half-dozen Punisher members is a trip to the RMN World Championships this weekend in Prescott, Arizona. The Punishers head out Thursday.
