UPDATED:

According to district documents, Upper Lake Union High School District Assistant Superintendent Don Boyd is up for the middle school job while Sandy Coatney — the current vice principal of Upper Lake High School — will be considered for a promotion.

“These guys are well qualified, so they can they hit the ground running” board president Mel O’Meara said. “I think it’ll work.”

If approved, the appointments would be two more pieces to the unification puzzle as July 1 approaches. That’s when the high school and Upper Lake Elementary School District will dissolve and merge into one. The elementary school, O’Meara added, set up a committee to find a principal headed by its current one, Valerie Gardner.

The same will also occur with the two respective teachers unions, according to Upper Lake Teacher’s Association (ULTA) President Gary Madison. When they unify, he said the new group would be called the Upper Lake Educators Association.

ULTA endorsed the hiring of high school district Superintendent Pat Iaccino earlier in the year, but hasn’t discussed a formal opinion of either of the candidates because there is “no controversy,” Madison said.

“We’re perfectly happy with the way things are going,” he added.

The meeting begins at 4 p.m. at the Upper Lake High School Library.
