UKIAH >> A Lake County man was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman near Ukiah, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Following a highway stop, law enforcement officers transported Alex J. Greene, 35, of Kelseyville, to the Mendocino County Jail where he faces several charges, including kidnapping and sexual battery.
According to the CHP, a woman called 911 to report she had been assaulted Monday and was on Highway 101 north of Hopland.
A CHP officer responded and located the victim at McNab Ranch Road. The woman, identified only as a 19-year-old, informed the officer she had been sexually assaulted by a man and gave a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
With no vehicle matching the description in the area, CHP sent a “be on the lookout” dispatch. Shortly afterward, deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle fitting the description.
The deputies stopped the suspect on Highway 101 near Geyserville.
Greene was booked for the alleged assault with the assistance of the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office.
