LOWER LAKE >> On a wet Tuesday afternoon in Lower Lake, the Trojans’ usually prolific offense dried up in a 9-2 non-league softball loss to the St. Vincent Mustangs.
The game was called after six innings because of rain and poor field conditions.
“I don’t know what happened,” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said. “We didn’t hit the ball. We left a lot of runners in scoring position. We couldn’t get a big hit.”
Both teams scored a run in the first inning and it remained tied until the top of the fifth when St. Vincent finally broke through with four runs against losing pitcher Ashlynn Mock. The Mustangs put the game away in the top of the sixth when their No. 3 hitter, Haley Antonini, connected for a grand slam against reliever Kalysta Howard.
Lower Lake pitching issued six walks, which didn’t help on a day when the Trojans’ bats produced just four hits, two of them by Kristen Celli (2-for-3, RBI).
“We can’t afford to give up extra runners,” Emberson said.
Jolean Scarborough and Adrianna Illia had the only other Lower Lake hits as the Trojans slipped to 1-2 on the season.
Winning pitcher Sully Henry went the distance, striking out three and walking five.
Lower Lake’s scheduled game Thursday with Montgomery has been postponed. Weather permitting, the Trojans are home Friday to play Upper Lake at 3:30 p.m.
In other softball action Tuesday:
Upper Lake 22, Anderson Valley 4

The game was played in on-again, off-again drizzle and called after the top of the fifth because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Upper Lake scored its runs in bunches, getting four in the first, four in the second, seven in the third and seven in the fourth.
Adrianna Saldana went 2-for-5 with four RBIs for the Cougars and Rebecca Harper went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Weather permitting, the Cougars are home today to play Potter Valley at 3:30 p.m. and on the road Friday to take on Lower Lake at 3:30 p.m.

Izzac Carver went 2-for-3 for the Trojans (1-1).
