CLEARLAKE >> Mendo Lake Credit Union (MLCU) is offering free tax preparation for households with income totaling less than $54,000. A special tax day event is scheduled for Saturday at the credit union’s Clearlake branch, 14866 Olympic Drive, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
To make an appointment, call 707-467-3236. Social Security and ITIN cards must be presented at the time of the appointment.
Saturday’s event concludes MLCU’s special tax day events, with the credit union having conducted two other dates in Mendocino County in February, according to Jamey Gill, Mendo Lake Credit Union’s director of Marketing and Community Outreach.
The tax preparation days are part of MLCU’s annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. In addition to the tax preparation, MLCU will waive the membership deposit for a basic savings account with direct deposit of an income tax refund this year, said Gill.
MLCU works in conjunction with North Coast Opportunities (NCO), Mendocino College and United Way to offer the free tax preparation.
Additional days and dates are available from the partnering organizations.
On March 19, tax preparation will be conducted at the Mendocino College Round Valley Classroom, 76300 Grange Street #3, Covelo, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
In Lake County, NCO has appointments at 14832 Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake, on Thursdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday, April 2, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and also at 850 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport, on Tuesdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. To make an appointment call 467-3236.
NCO also offers appointments at 413 N. State St., Ukiah, on Mondays, 1-6 p.m.; Thursdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-6 p.m. Additionally, appointments are available Thursdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mendocino College Ukiah Campus, 1000 Hensley Creek Road, rooms 721 and 720.
