MIDDLETOWN >> Olivia Glosser pitched a complete game despite taking a hard line drive off her thigh and the Middletown Mustangs pounded the El Molino Lions 12-3 in non-league softball action on Tuesday in Middletown where weather conditions were less than ideal.
“We played in a steady drizzle from the second through fourth innings and the temperature was down in the 40s,” Middletown coach Barry Glosser said.
Olivia Glosser, daughter of the coach, was nearly knocked out of the game in the top of the second inning when a line drive caught her in the left thigh.
“It was a shot right back up the middle,” Barry Glosser said.
El Molino scored in the inning to open up a 1-0 lead but a string of Middletown singles (five) in the bottom of the inning sparked a six-run uprising by the Mustangs.
All 10 of the Mustangs’ hits were singles, but Glosser wasn’t complaining.
“We hit some really hard balls and we ran the bases really well today,” he said.
Aly Ferguson went 3-for-4 with a RBI and both Brittney Holt and Gracie Armstrong went 2-for-4, Holt with three RBIs and Armstrong with two. Glosser (1-for-3) also helped her own cause by knocking in a pair of runs. As the winning pitcher, she didn’t allow an earned run, struck out seven and walked five.
Middletown was scheduled to play Thursday at Willows but that game has been postponed because of transportation issues. Weather and field conditions permitting, the Mustangs are home Monday to play Healdsburg at 4 p.m.
