WILLITS >> Neither the elements nor the competition stood in the way of the Clear Lake/Kelseyville combined high school swim team on Thursday as the Lake County squad won every event in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions during a meet at Willits High School.

Both the boys and girls are now 2-0 on the season.

“The success of this team lies with the dedication of the year-round swimmers and the tenacity of the new swimmers,” head coach Agustin Merodio said. “Our year-round club swimmers are earning the first- and second-place finishes but our new swimmers are placing high in the ranks and scoring points for the team as well. We have a lot of talent in the water.”

Girls

Double-event winners for the girls were Lauren Rudnick in the 500-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, Nikki Hanson in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Kaylie Williams in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle. Other winners were Shannon Fronsman in the 100 breaststroke and Emma Larsen in the 200 individual medley (IM).

Relay firsts went to Rudnick, Hanson, Fronsman and Williams in the 200 medley, Rudnick, Hanson, Larson and Williams in the 200 freestyle, and Fronsman, Iris Vasquez, Catherine Braider and Mikayla Parrott in the 400 freestyle.

The boys also racked up a pair of relay firsts, including another record-setting win by the 200 freestyle team of Adams, Dobusch, Marzyk and Diego Tejeda.

“The boys have a relay team that may be breaking a lot of records this season,” Merodio said . “This team is one to watch throughout the season.”

Dobusch, Lawler, Adams and Madrzyk also won the 200 medley.

The Clear Lake/Kelseyville team travels to Calistoga for a league meet on Thursday.

A team fundraiser is set for April 23 at the Lakeport Senior Center where a family bingo night will be held beginning at 5 p.m.
