LAKE COUNTY >> Skies cleared on Monday but a fifth straight day of high school sports action was postponed because of wet field conditions following nearly a week of steady and sometimes heavy rainfall in Lake County and throughout the North Coast.
Monday’s casualties included Healdsburg at Middletown junior varsity and varsity softball games. Middletown varsity softball head coach Barry Glosser said moving the game to Healdsburg wasn’t an option because the Greyhounds’ home diamond is also unplayable after being battered by several inches of rainfall since early last week.
Rain and wet fields have washed out all softball and baseball games going back to Wednesday. More games were canceled or postponed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, including a varsity baseball doubleheader between Clear Lake and McKinleyville that will be replayed Friday in Lakeport beginning at noon.
The next chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service, is next weekend. Until then, expect spring-like weather, including temperatures into the high 70s and possibly the low 80s, later in the week.
A handful of games are scheduled for today, including three games inside the county. Clear Lake (2-0) hosts Ukiah and Kelseyville (0-0) is home against Upper Lake (1-1) in softball action while Willits visits Upper Lake (0-2) in varsity baseball action. The Upper Lake-Kelseyville softball game may be moved to Upper Lake depending on field conditions at Kelseyville.
