CALISTOGA >> The combined Clear Lake/Kelseyville high school swim team had little trouble extending its winning streak on Thursday during a meet at Calistoga High School.
“The Calistoga High School team is in building mode and is small but full of heart,” Clear Lake/Kelseyville head coach Agustin Merodio said. “We enjoy swimming at their incredible pool complex and experience quite a bit of pool envy whenever we compete against them.”
Merodio said he mixed up the races a bit to give his swimmers some experience outside their comfort zones. Three team members — Emma Larsen, Catherine Braider and Tasia Jardstrom — competed in the 500-yard freestyle for the first time and Larsen won the event.
Other winners among the Clear Lake/Kelseyville girls were Lauren Rudnick in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Larsen in the 200 individual medley (IM); Kaylie Williams in the 200 freestyle; Shannon Fronsman in the 100 breaststroke; and Nikki Hanson in the 100 backstroke.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Hanson, Larsen, Rudnick and Williams continued its winning streak and broke the team record by one second. Other relay team winners were Braider, Fronsman, Hallie Holmes and Rainey Vanoven in the 400 freestyle and Fronsoman, Hanson, Rudnick and Williams in the 200 medley.
Boys
The Clear Lake/Kelseyville boys won every race against Calistoga. Double-event winners were Max Madrzyk in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Charlie Adams in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Nick Dobush in the 200 and 500 freestyle, and Owen Lawler in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Winning the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays was the foursome of Adams, Madrzyk, Dobush and Alberto Sturr.
The Clear Lake/Kelseyville team has a bye this week because of spring break but will return to action April 7 against Technology High School in Rohnert Park. The team is holding a bingo night fundraiser on April 23 at the Lakeport Senior Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.
