
SUTTER >> Wrestlers from Terrace Middle School in Lakeport and Upper Lake Middle School in Upper Lake made a strong showing on Saturday at the Twin Cities Invitational in Sutter.
Six mats in two gyms were required to handle a large field of wrestlers. There were two brackets, one for wrestlers in the seventh and eighth grades and the other for wrestlers in grades four, five and six.
Terrace
The Vikings sent 14 wrestlers (five boys and nine girls) to compete and they won a total of nine medals – three firsts, one second, two thirds and three fifths.
In the varsity bracket for seventh- and eighth-graders, Mavis Pyorre, wrestling up at 105 pounds, still went 3-0 with three pins to finish first. Sterling Wong added another first after going 2-0 with two pins at 190 pounds.
Frank Weiler added a second-place medal at 190 pounds while Ashley Vasquez and Deila Shirley claimed fifth place medals. Weiler, Vasquez and Shirley all had one pin.
Just missing out on medals with sixth-place finishers were Carlie Green, Teagan Miller and Alyssa Gray, all with one pin each.
Bryanna Johnson took home a fifth-place medal in the 100-pound junior varsity division.
In the bracket for wrestlers in the fourth through sixth grades, Jesse Lewis went 2-0 with two pins at 135 pounds to finish first. Enzo Torres went 3-1 with three pins at 90 pounds while Elijah Alvarez went 3-1 with one pin at 95 pounds to earn bronze medals.
Upper Lake
Upper Lake took seven wrestlers to Sutter and won six medals. Firsts went to Cody Banks and Bradley Sneathen. Mark Dutcher came in second, Isabel Sanchez and Donovan Fernandez added third-place medals, and Zeathen Wurm placed fourth.
Layla Medina just missed out on a medal.
