SANTA ROSA >> Just because the high school wrestling season is over doesn’t mean local wrestlers are kicking back and taking it easy now that spring has sprung.

At least that’s not the case at Upper Lake High School.

Four members of the school’s wrestling team made the trek to Santa Rosa last weekend to compete in a tournament that offered both greco and freestyle divisions. Freshman Junior Fernandez, one of Upper Lake’s best wrestlers during the 2015-16 season and a fourth-place finisher at 120 pounds during the North Coast Section Championships, scored first-place medals in both categories, going 4-0 in freestyle and 2-0 in greco.

Adriana Lopez, a third-place section medalist and a state tournament qualifier for the Cougars, went 2-0 in greco to finish first and 1-1 in freestyle to come in second.

Dante Bassignani also came home with two medals, going 4-0 in freestyle for first place and 1-2 in greco to tie for second.

Nick Warner added a pair of medals as well, finishing second in freestyle and third in greco.
