UPPER LAKE >> The Upper Lake Unified School District (ULUSD) Board of Trustees will consider hiring a new principal for the Upper Lake Elementary School at its regular meeting today.

Under consideration for the job is Lake County Office of Education Director of Educational Resources and Accountability Stephanie Wayment, who was hand-picked after a three month long search by a committee from the school. The facilitator of the selection group, outgoing elementary superintendent/principal Valerie Gardner, said Wayment’s experience and knowledge of the school made her the right candidate.

“Stephanie has years of experience working with elementary schools,” Gardner said. “She was very instrumental with coming up with our plan to improve the district.”

That specific familiarity was important to the committee, composed of teachers and staff. The body approved her unanimously. Gardner said that she had no involvement in the vote.

“We really wanted the staff at the elementary school to make the presentation,” she added, meaning her and ULUSD Superintendent Pat Iaccino.

If approved, Wayment would join Dan Boyd (middle school) and Sandy Coatney (high school) as the heads of the three schools in the district. The men were appointed two weeks ago.

The meeting begins at 4 p.m. at the Upper Lake High School Library.
