Hidden Valley Lake >> Lake County Milers’ are thrilled to hold their 14th annual Spring Has Sprung on May 1 at Coyote Valley Elementary School.
Due to popular demand, the club is bringing back the challenging 10K course (6.1 miles) along with their family-friendly 5K, kids runs 1/2K (300 yards) for ages 4 to 5 and 1K (600 yards) for ages 6 to 8.
Register by April 1 for best price and shirt selection at www.runsignup.com/spring. To have a form mailed to you email lakecountymilers@gmail.com with your full address.
The registration fee is $30 for ages 20 and older in the 5K/10K, which includes performance-wear shirt, chip timing and refreshments, and $20 ages 19 and younger. After April 1 prices increase by $5.
The start and finish will be at Coyote Valley Elementary School, located at 18950 Coyote Valley Road in Hidden Valley Lake.
The nonprofit Lake County Milers club is dedicated to promoting physical fitness in Lake County through running and walking.
This year the Spring Has Sprung event will support track and field programs at Middletown, Kelseyville and Upper Lake high schools. In addition, the Milers have enlisted the help of the varsity girls ICE basketball team led by coach Anthony Bazzano and will make a donation toward their athletic program for their services.
The Spring Has Sprung annual event features a flat 5K (3.1 mile) run and walk through Hidden Valley Lake golfing neighborhood. Participants can choose to “race” the timed event as a runner or fast walker or take their time strolling the course.
The 10K run, which has a time limit of 85 minutes, takes place on a somewhat hilly and scenic course that meanders up around the lake. Medals are awarded to the top three in age and gender division in the 5K and 10K. The 1/2K to 1K run for children between ages 4 through 8 is not timed and is limited to 45 participants. Each child will receive a finisher’s medal as they cross the finish line and can head right over to a kid-specific refreshment table.
Cost for the kid’s event if registered by April 1 is $5. Many children choose to run or walk the 5K rather than the kids run, the age divisions start at 10 and younger and span to adults 70 and older (five year divisions). The age divisions in the 10K are 19 and younger and 20 to 60 and older (10 year divisions).
Event shirts and goodie bags are guaranteed for all registrants in the 5K and 10K if register by April 1 and then while supplies last. The Hidden Valley Lake Community Services District is providing pedestrian-specific water bottles.
The kids races are set for 8 a.m., followed by the 5K/10K briefing and warm up at 8:15 a.m. Event-day registration is from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m.
The Lake County Milers running and walking group meets every Saturday in two locations: Mountain High Coffee and Books in the parking lot of Hardester’s Hidden Valley Lake shopping center (Hartmann Road exit off Highway 29) currently at 9 a.m. and in front of Woodies Diner at 3555 N Main St. in Kelseyville currently at 9:30 a.m. The public is invited to come out and join the group for weekly exercise.
