FORESTVILLE >> Seventeen hits later, the Clear Lake Cardinals walked off the softball field at El Molino High School in Forestville with a 13-0 non-league victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

“I’ve been really happy with the way we’ve been hitting the ball all season,” Clear Lake coach Doug Wingler said. “I’m really pleased with our discipline at the plate. We squared up a lot of balls today.”

Eight of Clear Lake’s starters had at least one hit. Three of them – Alicia Ledesma, Emily Psalmonds and freshman Madi Ferguson – finished with three hits apiece. Psalmonds’ double was the Cardinals’ only extra-base hit.

Winning pitcher Rachel Wingler finished with a one-hitter while striking out eight and walking one. Of El Molino’s three baserunners, only one advanced as far as second base.

Clear Lake plays Montgomery at 2 p.m. on Friday in the opening round of the Ukiah Tournament.
