LOWER LAKE >> Jolean Scarborough and Alex DeGraw belted two-run home runs and Kristen Celli went 3-for-3 with a double and triple on Tuesday afternoon as the Lower Lake Trojans worked over the Calistoga Wildcats 15-1 in a non-league softball game called after 4 ½ innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
It was the first loss of the season for Calistoga (2-1), which scored its only run in the top of the second inning on a Citlali Montanez home run that made it a 2-1 game at that point. Scarborough’s shot in the bottom half boosted the Trojans’ lead to 4-1. Lower Lake added another run in the third before blowing the game wide open with a 10-run fourth, which featured DeGraw’s home run.
Both Scarborough and DeGraw hit their home runs to straightaway center field. DeGraw’s blast was the more impressive of the two, according to Lower Lake head coach Chris Emberson.
“It landed 10-15 feet behind the fence,” Emberson said.
Scarborough finished the game with three RBIs while DeGraw, Celli, Azuree Meza, Kayla Sanderson and winning pitcher Ashlynn Mock drove in two runs apiece. TheTrojans (5-2) banged out 12 hits in all in support of Mock, who allowed Calistoga’s only two hits during her four-inning stint. She struck out five and walked one. Destiny Apodaca pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Montanez went 2-for-2 for the Wildcats. Her other hit was a double.
“She plays center field for them and is a great athlete,” Emberson said. “She could start for me.”
Lower Lake sent 14 batters to the plate during its 10-run fourth.
The Trojans return to action Thursday when they go under the lights in Healdsburg to play the Greyhounds at 6 p.m.
