The Children’s Museum of Art and Science (CMAS) is preparing for their 10th annual art and science camp to be held at the Ely Stage Stop and the Taylor Observatory on Saturday, May 7. This free camp is open to any 4th to 6th grader in Lake County. Permission slips and parent information letters will be delivered to each school office on Monday, April 5 and will be picked up on Friday, April 22.
CMAS volunteers are working hard to make sure this anniversary camp is fun and exciting. Students will rotate through three stations at each venue. Around the porch of the Stage Stop building, docents will lead stations at which students can experience life in the 1850s, in the barn, students will make sand candles, and outdoors under the oaks, students can participate in a readers’ theater performance. At Taylor Observatory, students will see a planetarium show, use microscopes to view life in our lake water, and have hands on time learning to play a guitar.
A morning snack courtesy of Foods, Etc and a tasty lunch prepared by the Culinary Program of Kelseyville High School and sponsored by the Kelseyville Rotary Club will be provided. After lunch, everyone will assemble in the barn at Ely to see a live raptor show thanks to the Redbud Audubon Society. This show never fails to inspire and amaze. Jenny Papka from Native Bird Connections brings rescued birds and tells their stories with humor and compassion. Students are able to see these raptors up close and ask questions about them.
Students may also register for the camp by going to the Lake County Office of Education web site. Click on “calendar”. Scroll forward to the May calendar and click on “May 7.” Please note that there are two different parent letters and permission slips: one for Konocti/Lucerne Districts and one for all others. Download a permission slip, sign it and either hand it in to your school office or mail it to PO Box 2634, Clearlake, CA 95422 by April 22. All students who are enrolled in the camp will receive a phone call home during the week of May 2-6. Participation is limited to 120 students so sign up early! Parents are always welcome!
This camp is co-sponsored by the Lake County Office of Education. It is also supported by the Lake County Historical Society, the Redbud Audubon Society, the Lake County Wine Alliance, The Rotary Clubs of Lake County, and Foods, Etc.
