MIDDLETOWN >> A lineup of speakers for the popular monthly series of Fireside Chats at Gibson Museum in Middletown has just been released.
The history of Hoberg’s Resort and the artifacts found in its ashes will be presented by Dr. John Parker on Saturday, March 26, at 3pm. Many seats have already been reserved, so it is wise to book ahead.
Gene Paleno, whose column in the Record-Bee has gained many followers, will share some of the stories in his newly published book of Lake County history on Saturday April 30, and sign books for fans.
Succeeding Chats have been scheduled for Sundays to avoid conflicts with Living History speakers at Ely Stage Stop.
Sunday, May 29, Bob Donley will tell of the founding of Middletown Days, the Central Park Association, the gymkhana and rodeo events.
On Sunday, June 26, Sandy Hoberg Fox will describe the oddities of the still unsolved murder of Joan Hamann Dole in Middletown in 1966.
Ellen Klages, author of the wonderfully well-researched book on the history of Harbin Hot Springs and the south Lake County area will appear Sunday July 24.
August 29 will bring Willie Sapeta, chief of the Lake County Fire Department in Clearlake, to describe a fascinating map of historic fires in Lake County.
Chats are free of charge, although donations are welcomed, and begin at 3 p.m. Seating is limited, but can be reserved at gibsonmuseum@gmail.com or 987-2349.
Gibson Museum is located directly across Highway 29 from the Middletown Community Center and Park.
