Kelseyville >> Almost 80 participants from multiple Lake County clubs took part in the competitions and activities at the March 19 4-H Fling and Expo held at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Community room — so many in fact that several stations ran out of supplies just shortly before the awards ceremony and closing.
The 4-H Fling and Expo is an annual field day event sponsored by the Lake County 4-H Council.
Nate and Cord Falkenberg, Emerald Star members of the Scotts Valley 4-H Club, acted as masters of ceremonies. Activities were directed and supervised by junior and teen leaders from Anderson Marsh, Blue Heron 4-H, and Cole Creek 4-H.
There were 10 different stations, each focused on a fun and educational task. There were also entries of products made by 4-Hers including sewing, baking, educational displays and resumes.
Winning medals in Home Arts and Sewing were Amelia Woods (two), Abby Tucker and Grace Tucker. Medals were also won by Mariah Woods (Best Cookie), Jaden Bussard (Best Themed Cupcake and Best Cobbler), Amelia Woods (Best Themed Place Setting), Abby Tucker (Best Leprechaun Trap) and Cole Hayes (Best Smoothie). Winning the trophy for the Smoothie Blend Off presentation was Abby Tucker of Anderson Marsh.
Those attending the free event went home with a crafted pin cushion jar, flubber, knowledge about tools and bugs, a crafted slingshot, a handmade tote bag from a recycled T-shirt and food art. The 4-H clubs offer the community’s young people hands-on projects to choose from and emphasizes experiential learning.
