Thirteen-year-old twin brothers Vittorio and Vincenzo Piazza of Santa Rosa took the music world by storm two years ago when their rock band V² (pronounced V-squared) was nominated in seven categories and won in four — Rock Single of the Year, Record of the Year, Rock Album of the Year and Rock Artist of the Year — at the annual LA Music Awards. They’re also big baseball fans and when they heard about the destructive Valley Fire last September and how the Middletown High School baseball teams had lost all of their game jerseys to the blaze, they ponied up more than $3,000 to replace them. On Friday, Vittorio and Vincenzo worked out with the Middletown teams at their daily practice. Vittorio is a pitcher and an outfielder while brother Vincenzo plays shortstop and catcher. In fact, Vincenzo brought his own catching gear to the workout. “They wanted to do something to help after the fire and it came out of the blue … I received an email from them,” Middletown varsity baseball coach Brad Holt said. “They were trying to figure out a way to help and this was it.” While the two brothers can certainly rock the house on stages throughout the country, they’re also solid athletes. “I was thoroughly impressed with their defense and they can swing it (the bat), too,” Holt said. “They’re the nicest kids. They stayed for the full workout (nearly three hours).”
