SANTA ROSA >> Morgan Profitt’s bid for a third straight no-hitter didn’t last long, so she did the next best thing on Wednesday as the Kelseyville High School softball team beat host Rincon Valley Christian 20-0 in non-league game called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Profitt settled for a one-hitter after allowing a clean single to the third Rincon Valley batter she faced in the bottom of the first. The Eagles actually threatened in the inning by loading the bases with one out, but Profitt escaped the jam by getting a shallow fly ball to left field and a grounder to third base.
Kelseyville (3-0) had a 7-0 lead before Profitt threw her first pitch of the day. The Knights led 10-0 after two innings.
Brendelyn Pelzel anchored the Kelseyville offense with a 3-for-4 outing that included four RBIs. Kailani Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Tymeka Green went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and four runs scored.
Profitt struck out seven and walked four. She was backed by another error-free performance by her teammates in the field.
“Our defense played really well again,” Kelseyville coach Jeff Bour said. “Dang near every player out there made a nice play.”
The Knights are home on Friday to face Lower Lake (6-3) in the North Central League I opener for both teams. First pitch is 4 p.m.
“Friday will be a good test for us,” Bour said.
