FRESNO >> Megan Stottsberry of the Punishers Wrestling Club of Lower Lake is a state champion.

One of a handful of team members competing in the USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Championships on Saturday at Selland Arena in Fresno, Stottsberry beat Rheanne Ferer of Lancer Youth Wrestling of Manteca by 6-5 decision in the championship match for girls ages 11-12 at 110 pounds.

More than 1,400 of the state’s best wrestlers took part.

Stottsberry’s state title is the 14th for the Punishers in the last five years.

Other top Punishers finishers were Alexis Peregrina, who placed second among girls ages 9-10 at 75-80 pounds; Carter Rudolph, who finished third with a 4-1 record among boys in the 75-pound-plus division; Jonathan Fredrickson, who went 4-2 and placed fifth for boys ages 12-13 at 70 pounds; and Ricky Campos, who was seventh in the novice 105-pound boys’ division.

The Punishers return to action April 7-10 at the Reno World Championships where more than 2,500 wrestlers will be competing for national titles.
