ROHNERT PARK >> Ryan Johnson’s team didn’t win on Wednesday, but the St. Helena High School golfer had himself quite a day during a Coastal Mountain Conference South match at the par-71 Foxtail South course in Rohnert Park.
Johnson fired a 3-under-par 68 that included six birdies and a 31 on the back nine.
“He hit all of the par-5s, four of them, in two,” Kelseyville High School coach John Berry said of Johnson.
Undefeated South leader St. Vincent won easily despite low rounds from Johnson and talented teammate Connor Chesky, posting a 320 team score. St. Helena was next at 382 and was followed by Middletown with 394. Kelseyville, Technology, Geyserville and Rincon Valley Christian all had incomplete squads (fewer than four golfers).
Jack Hood led St. Vincent, now 18-0 in the standings through the first three South matches, with a 72 and teammate Alex Graham had a 75 as did St. Helena’s Chesky, who carded one of two eagles on the par-5 18th hole. Kelseyville’s Matt Wotherspoon had the other one to finish his day at 76. Wotherspoon also had a birdie.
Tyler McSween led Middletown with a 94 that featured one birdie. Quentin Crayne was close behind at 97 and Hayden Sust finished with 98.
The CMC South teams meet again Wednesday at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.
