ROSEVILLE >> The North State Modified Series (NSMS) kicks off its third season on April 23 at All American Speedway in Roseville. This first event features the inaugural Sinister Diesel Gene Welch Modified Classic.
Welch, a many-time champion at All American Speedway, died in December. He owned Welch Racing Enterprises in Orangevale and built cars and helped dozens of drivers for many decades. Competitors from throughout the state will be in attendance.
The Roseville race is the first of a busy 11-race schedule for NSMS, which is presented by Protect the Harvest. The season-opening race supports the new Protect the Harvest Tow Money program. The top-10 point contenders will get $100 just for showing up at each 2016 points race, beginning at Shasta Speedway in Anderson on May 7.
Roseville also hosts NSMC races in June and September. Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka, Ukiah Speedway and Madera Speedway also host two races this season. The June 11 date at Madera Speedway will be a combo show with the Lucas Oil Modifieds, while the August 13 race is a combo show with the PCS Late Models. The season concludes with the Lloyd Burton Against the Wind Modified Challenge on Oct. 1 at Shasta Speedway.
Swartz Diesel of Grass Valley and Sinister Diesel of Roseville are the headline sponsors and are guaranteeing $1,000 for the winner at each event. Lucas Oil Products will once again present the Lucas Oil Dash for Cash, and Penney Racing Supply will sponsor the Fast Time Award. Sunoco will be the official race fuel for NSMS, and the Hard Charger Award is compliments of Wenteq. All modifieds will be running on American Racer Tires.
The Buckhorn Bar and Grill in Dixon is once again on board as a series sponsor, and Kristin’s WrapStar Pro provides all the series banners, decals and graphics. Contingency sponsors include Fensler Racing Enterprises (F.R.E.), Five Star Bodies, Naake Suspension, Scribner Plastics, and DJ Racing Safety Equipment.
