Lakeport >> Friends of the Lake County Library donated a check in the amount of $500 to the Imagination Library on March 2.

The Imagination Library was developed in 1995 by Dolly Parton to support literacy in her Tennessee hometown. Since that time, the program has spread nationwide and was recently adopted as a primary initiative of the Lake County Literacy Task Force.

Donated funds are managed by the Lake County Office of Education (LCOE). These funds ensure that children registered for the program receive books at their home through age 5. More information is available through LCOE at 262-4100.

Friends of the Lake County Library is a service organization that raises money through memberships, book sales and donations. Proceeds are used to benefit the four library branches for the purchase of books, CDs, and supplies for the summer reading program. The group meets at 10 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Lake County Library, located at 1425 N. High St. in Lakeport.
