LAKEPORT >. Oral history is all about recording people’s experiences in life, from their first day at work to their wedding day to where they were when Pearl Harbor was attacked. These stories are especially important for families to preserve — imagine the gems that your grandparents or parents have stored in their minds!
As part of the Book-to-Action program, the Museums of Lake County have partnered with the Lake County Library to host a free introductory workshop on oral history, which will be held at the Historic Courthouse Museum on April 16 from 10 a.m. until noon. The museum is located at 255 N. Main St. Lakeport.
During this workshop you will learn the basics of how to conduct, use and preserve an oral history interview — learn how to prepare for an interview, the types of questions to ask and what to do with the recorded stories when you’re done. This workshop, together with the book The Oral History Workshop by Cynthia Hart and Lisa Samson as well as all the other Book-to-Action programs during the month of April, will get you on the right track to begin recording your family’s oral history.
Because this year’s Book-to-Action program is especially focused on recording the stories of the recent fires in Lake County, those interested in collecting these stories are especially encouraged to attend.
Be sure to pick up your copy of the book at any branch of the Lake County Library before the workshop.
