Lake County >> Lake County Hunger Task Force was recently selected to be the official agency in charge of the Lake County Christmas Fund, renamed the Lake County Holiday Fund.

The task force is celebrating its 15th year of helping feed the hungry in Lake County, holding monthly meetings since January 2001.

Its legal nonprofit status secured in 2012 means that all donations to the holiday fund are tax deductible.

The Lake County Record-Bee will continue its participation by publicizing all donations.

Donations will still be made to any branch of WestAmerica Bank or Umpqua Bank. Holiday boxes of food will still be assembled and distributed in Lakeport and Clearlake during the holiday season. Lakeport Rotary, NCO Community Action, Lake Family Resource Center, Foods, Etc. and Bruno’s will all participate as they have in the past, along with many community volunteers.

The way the fund operates is that donations made this past holiday season will be spent for the boxes this year. Nearly 1,500 boxes of food are given out, 600 in Lakeport and 850 in Clearlake.

This past season, there was a shortfall of funds. The Lakeport Rotary gave $5,500 to help make up for that, but more help is needed for this year.

Donations are accepted throughout the year, not just at holiday time.

If you are interested in the activities and meetings of the Lake County Hunger Task Force, visit its new website at lakecountyhungertaskforce.org, Facebook page, or send an email to hungertaskforce9@gmail.com.

The Huger Task Force is always looking for volunteers to help with gardens, food distributions, handing out information at community events and brainstorming how to better serve our fellow residents.

The goal of the Lake County Hunger Task Force is to see that no one goes to bed hungry in Lake County.
