LAKE COUNTY >> The Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Calpine Corporation, Black Rock Golf Course and International Union of Operating Engineers 3 is hosting three upcoming forums for candidates running for each of Lake County’s Supervisorial Districts, 1, 4 and 5, up for election this year.
The goal of the forum is to create a format to educate and help inform voters about the candidates seeking office. Each forum will allow the candidates to express their views openly so audience members can understand their positions and make informed voting choices.
Each candidate will be allowed the opportunity to address a wide range of issues that affect their community. All candidates have been invited to participate in their district forum.
The forum will open with a two minute speech from each candidate that will include their name and reason they are seeking office. That will be followed by five predetermined questions that will be selected in advance from community/public submittals. Should advance questions not be received, the event sponsors will select five general questions to open the forum. The remaining questions will be from the audience.
Audience members will write down their questions on index cards provided at the event. Written questions will go directly to a three person committee to screen questions for content and to avoid duplicity. The person asking the question will be called to the podium to ask their question directly to the candidates. If the index card does not include a name with the question submitted, the question will be asked by the moderator at his/her discretion.
Equal treatment will be given to all candidates and an unbiased means to determine the speaking order of the candidates will be used in each forum. Each speaker will be given the same amount of time and the time limits will be clearly explained to the candidates before the event starts.
Each forum will adhere strictly to those limits so all candidates are treated equally. A designated timekeeper will signal the speaker when his/her time is up. Each candidate will have one minute to respond to the questions.
Candidates will not be allowed to distribute campaign literature during the forum and we will advise them of this ahead of time. Everyone is invited to attend.
