POTTER VALLEY >>The Potter Valley Volunteer Fire Department recently purchased new structural firefighting turnouts for most of its 25 volunteers, Fire Chief Bill Pauli recently reported.

Usually, the department only buys one or two sets of new turnouts, as they can cost between $1,000 to $2,000 per set.

According to Pauli, the large purchase of turnouts was made possible due to the “many donations from the public. The PVFD puts on several fund-raising events throughout the year, and the community is always very generous.”

Since the entire department is volunteer, Pauli said the new turnouts go a long way toward “showing (the volunteers) the appreciation of their community and their fire department.”

Two fundraisers that help support the department are the annual Poker Tournament, which this year is on Saturday, April 23, and the annual Firemen’s Chicken BBQ, which will be on May 28, during the Potter Valley Memorial Day Celebration.
