Middletown >> On Saturday and Sunday, Middletown High School (MHS) students will be participating in their 13th Relay for Life, a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

This year, for the fifth time, students are holding the event on the school campus.

“With the Rocky, Jerusalem, and Valley fires occurring at the beginning of the school year, were unsure if the students were even interested in participating — well, they begged for the event to continue, even before many were even back in temporary homes,” MHS science teacher Suzanna Macedo said.

Students are on track to have their biggest relay ever, with more than 250 students participating (more than half of the students) and almost $18,000 raised so far.

The public is invited to participate. All are welcome to attend between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. There will be activity and info booths, food and group activities such as a giant Jenga game, line dancing and karaoke. In addition, the Cancer Survivors Walk will take place at 9 a.m. to cheer on any and all cancer survivors, and the emotional Luminaria Ceremony at 9 p.m. in honor of those lost to cancer.

If you are unable to join, but are willing to donate, the link to the fundraising webpage is: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY16CA?pg=entry&fr_id=71544.

MHS is located at 20932 Big Canyon Road in Middletown.
